GETTING TO WORK - APRIL 2, 2025

Well we are working on our second week in Korea - and it feels like we have known these beautiful people we have met in the Osan Branch and the missionaries for a lifetime! Pretty sure we knew each other in the pre-existance!

We have been to district meetings - they are every Tuesday Morning from 10- 12.  These missionaries are so incredible - they have done a great job of mastering the language AND developing strong testimonies! We have 14 young missionaries in our district and one other senior couple assigned to Camp Humphries. They are mostly from the states, but two were from the Philipines and one is  from Korea. Transfers will be this Friday and we one of our missionaries from the Philipines will go home, one of our sisters will head back to Idaho, one of the sisters we work closely with is being transferred and our Korean Elder is being transferred to a new district.  We are SAD to see them go but so happy that we get to Keep two of the four missionaries we have been working with!  They have been Godsends to us as we learn to navigate ourselves around this foriegn country!

We are pretty much told to go out and create our own mission in whatever way the Spirit directs us in ways to support the military community - member and friends of other faiths. But, there are a lot of programs in progress that we are just stepping into and it entails a little more than just the military.  On Monday nights - we help with Family Home Evening for the single members of the Osan Branch and the Pyeongtaek Branch. This has been so much fun!  We have someone from Libya, a recent convert from Sri Lanka, two friends of other faiths from Korea and some unaccompanied airmen. The sisters teach the lesson, the elders do the activity and we bring the treats!  We love it!

Wednesday mornings we will be sponsoring the young missionaries on the base and doing whatever we can to help them

Wednesday nights - we do a zoom meeting teaching the English Connect program - this was such a sweet thing last week when we joined - two of the ladies have joined the church as a result of the class, two were already members and two are just learning - I never knew you could learn to love people in one meeting and especially over a ZOOM meeting!!  We also will help with this class in person with a different group on Sundays after our meeting block!  This is a mixture of members and friends of other faiths as well.

Thursday nights we have a room at the chapel on base reserved for us to have a scripture/ gospel principles class .

Friday night is a Singles activity for anyone who is single or unaccompianied.

We have met with the USO , the Red Cross, and the Library. We will be doing a storytime at the library on Thursday mornings. Not sure yet what times we will be working at the other organizations, but we also plan to work with the thrift shop.  All these things support the base and also make us visible for anyone who is needing a friend or wants info about the church etc!

We have decided we need to invite a family from the branch to dinner at least once a week - looks like I will be cooking treats and  meals a LOT!  That's ok - sometimes the way to the heart is through the stomach.

This is a picture of our first group of people for Sunday dinner! We love these guys! Three of them have left their families for 12 months - so we know we need to be here and support them wherever we can. One of them is married to a member of our church, he is not - however, during his time here at Osan, he has decided to be baptized - the light is really strong in his eyes!  Such a tender mercy to be here with him and help him understand all the principles of the gospel!  His wife has been praying for this for at least 17 years! MIRACLE
This is our sweet Elder from the Phillipines who heads home tomorrow! We loved having this short time with him - He is truly amazing - can't wait to see what he does with his life!

We still have a Sister Burrell from Arizona and Elder Baird from Saratoga Springs, Utah here with us!  Looking forward to the next six weeks working with them!

As you can see - Elder Lowe is looking forward to his meetings with Dan (Daily Afternoon Nap)
WE WILL BE BUSY!

We are so grateful for apps like messenger and Signal so we can communicate with our family back home - it makes me a little less homesick!
I must sign off and get to the zoom english class but stay tune for my post on "Firsts in Korea"
